RSV

Based on “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly” written by Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe

Every year when October hits starts a season that gives us fits
From then ‘til April it’s the time for treating RSV
Ninety thousand babies a year in the hospital will appear
And two percent we fear will die because of RSV

So now this is the time that we must all be up to speed
So that we can recognize the symptoms that we must heed

It starts out like a cold or flu you might see a nose full of goo
Fever and earache too and you should think of RSV
As it progresses you might see wheezing rales or SOB
Any two of these three and you should test for RSV

And so now that we know the symptoms now are in your head
It’s time to learn what to do so this virus doesn’t spread

In to crowds babies shouldn’t go to sick people and smokes say no
Washing hands like a pro can stop the spread of RSV
In our duties we’d be remiss if we don’t mention Synagis
It is a drug that is a new vaccine for RSV

Five shots one every month is all it takes to help protect
Little kids from getting sick so tell us who could object

‘Til then we’ll give supportive care IVs nebs and high O2 air
And hope for the time there will no longer
Be RSV
